Warminster Library Celebrates 50th anniversary

An event is planned for October to mark the milestone in Warminster Township.

WARMINSTER TOWNSHIP, PA — The Warminster Library is celebrating its 50th anniversary this year with a party planned for October.

Library Director Peter Lehu said the library is working on a new website that will go live at the end of the year. In late summer, new carpeting will also be installed.

But the big anniversary event is the Golden Anniversary Celebration on Oct. 10, Lehu said.

"Our anniversary party is a chance to celebrate with our community and supporters," Lehu said. "

Lehu said the event will include some brief comments from him and other community leaders.

Hot appetizers will be provided by Giuseppe's Family Restaurant. Five Ponds Golf Course will be pouring library-themed mocktails. And there will be live jazz from local trio, the DLC Project.

Lehu said the celebration will also be a mini-fundraiser for new furniture for the reading lounge.

There will be raffle baskets and a live auction featuring theatre tickets and donations from local businesses.

Tickets for the 50th Anniversary event are available now at zeffy.com/en-US/ticketing/warminster-library-50th-anniversary-golden-celebration.

Fifty years ago, Warminster Library was under construction on land donated from Centennial School District.

The Library, which was founded by the Warminster Federated Women's Club in 1960, had been operating out of the Township building at Henry and Gibson but had outgrown that location.

In 1975, it housed a collection of over 35,000 books and served 10,000 patrons. At the time township residents were very supportive of the idea of increasing the local library tax by 67% to finance a new, separate library building. Construction began in the spring of 1976 and was complete by early the next year.

The new library lent out not only books, but toys, framed prints, sculptures, and instructional audio cassettes!

Today, Warminster Library has a collection of 60,000 items (plus access to over 100,000 e-books and other digital resources) and over 108,000 people walked through the front door last year.

The library lends out museum passes, board games, video games, and useful and fun "things", such as a telescope and a pickleball set.

The staff of 20 serves residents from the entire region and as a member of the Bucks County Library District we can get materials for patrons from libraries all over the country. We host story-times, events, and club meetings almost every day, and provide free study room reservations.
