These Birds Have Flown The Coop: This Week In Philly Sports

The Philadelphia Eagles look like a broken-down team that lacks conviction after five straight losses.

PHILADELPHIA — Philadelphia Eagles Coach Nick Sirianni was slapping his gums on Monday night.

No, he wasn't chewing out a referee on the sidelines. He was chewing gum — and blowing a bubble — during his press conference in which the team had lost to the hated Dallas Cowboys, marking five straight losses.

Sirianni seemed to have a carefree attitude during his press conference, even though his defense fell apart from the start and the team stumbled during Owner Jeffrey Lurie's induction into the Eagles Hall of Fame.

Players and coaches who attended the ceremony had heart: Legendary Coach Dick Vermeil, quarterbacks Ron Jaworski and Donovan McNabb, Running Back Bryan Westbrook, Safety Brian Dawkins and other legends.

This Eagles team is playing like they've thrown in the towel, except for maybe a few players.

Rookie Wideout Makai Lemon is starting to shine and really could be a star one day with more seasoning. Running Back Saquon Barkley — struggling with a hamstring injury — showed heart and grit trying to play through his health issues.

Even the offensive line got their act together a bit with the return of Center Drew Kendall and Guard Landon Dickerson.

But that was basically it.

The defense was awful and star players like Jalen Carter, Jordan Davis, Zach Braun, and Cooper DeJean were MIA.

Defensive Coach Vic Fangio basically seemed to just be watching the game instead of calling the shots.

The team looks like it has given up. The team looks like it's just going to play through the remaining 10 games.

All of that goes on Sirianni, who told the press between blowing bubbles that there still a lot of football left and "we'll see what happens over the next 10 games."

With all the injuries and the loss of Jalen Hurts, it's difficult to remain competitive. Yes, the NFC East may still be up for grabs, but the hunger seems to be gone.

His team just lost to the Dallas Cowboys on "Monday Night Football." That didn't seem to matter.

With the way the season is going and with Quarterback Jalen Hurts out for the season, it may be time to part ways with the Super Bowl-winning coach.

He seems to have lost his team. The team seems to have lost him.

We owe Sirianni for getting this team to the Super Bowl two times, and for winning one of them. But's time to go.

Sirianni will soon have plenty of time to chew gum and blow bubbles. The sooner, the better.

The bubble has burst in Philadelphia.
