16 German Shepherds Rescued From Georgia Arrive In West Chester

After 165 dogs were found in deplorable conditions in Georgia, 16 of them have been rescued by the local SPCA.

WEST CHESTER, PA — After 165 dogs were found in deplorable conditions in Georgia, 16 of them have been rescued by the Brandywine Valley SPCA, and are currently housed in West Chester.

The horrific puppy mill in Montgomery County, Georgia housed the German Shepherds in a large yard that had turned into a muck of mud and feces.

"These poor dogs have been living miserable lives. We are happy to be the ones to finally bring it all to an end,” Robert Misseri, president of Guardians of Rescue, an animal rescue organization, said in a statement. “We can’t do this on our own because we don’t have the funds to pull off a rescue of this size. We desperately need the help of the public in order to make this happen and get all of these dogs to safety.”

Brandywine Valley SPCA received 16 of the dogs at their West Chester campus on Tuesday morning. There they received medical exams, baths, and evaluations for their immediate future, such as whether they were prepared for adoption or needed something more intensive. They're currently looking for donations to help with the situation.

Primarily, the dogs need medical care and help with socialization.

"These 16 dogs have known nothing but each other – no love, no affection, no family, not even suitable housing," the BVSCPA said in announcing that they'd taken in the dogs.

The owner of the Georgia property has been taken into custody and faces animal cruelty charges.
