NEW GARDEN TOWNSHIP, PA — A raccoon attacked and injured a person in Chester County recently, authorities have confirmed.
The incident occurred in New Garden Township on Friday, June 19, near the intersection of Hillendale and Sharp roads.
The victim, a 66-year-old woman, was walking in her yard when she was attacked, 6ABC reports.
The Chester County Health Department says they do not yet know if the raccoon is rabid. An investigation remains underway.
The woman went to the hospital for rabies and tetanus shots but is home and recovering, the report states.
"Residents are strongly advised to NOT attempt to catch or engage with raccoons in the area," the health department shared.
Officials advised residents to stay away from wild animals and to stay aware of their pets.
