UPPER UWCHLAN TOWNSHIP, PA — The man who died in Marsh Creek State Park over the Fourth of July weekend following severe storms has been identified as a man named Sean O'Connor, authorities said.
O'Connor was an avid softball and baseball player and was remembered with love by his friends.
"Sean was an amazingly kind, caring man," his friend Stephanie Thrasher shared in a GoFundMe. "For those who knew him, you know his smile would light up the room...he was always ready to go to a field."
"Sean was a truly kind soul who left us way too soon," Softball America shared.
The fundraiser launched to support his family with funeral costs has raised more than $10,000.
State Rep. Danielle Friel-Otten shared condolences with the family and also thanked first responders for what turned out to be a tragic weekend.
"Giving up your holiday to answer a call for help says everything about the character of this community," she added. "We know this was a difficult night for everyone involved, and we thank you for your service and your compassion."
The incident occurred on Saturday, July 4 shortly after 8 p.m. as severe storms passed through the region.
Details of the incident remain unclear, the Chester County Coroner's office has not yet released an official cause or manner of death.
First responders launched multiple boats from the west boat ramp. Both search and rescue from local fire departments as well as state DCNR staff assisted in the effort.
The body was discovered shortly after midnight.
