High School Reopens In Chester County After Measles Threat

The district worked to verify the immunity status of the school community after the discovery.

OXFORD, PA — Oxford Area High School reopened for classes on Monday after a measles case was confirmed in the school community last week.

During the closure and over the weekend, school officials worked to verify the immunity of teachers and staff, as required by the Chester County Health Department.

"The health and safety of our students and staff must remain a priority, and I appreciate the work of our district employees and the Chester County Health Department as they work together to address this situation and provide guidance," Oxford Area Board of School Directors member Andrew Atkinson said. "I encourage our community to stay informed through official district and public health communications and to be mindful that not all information shared on social media is accurate."

Oxford's football game occurred as scheduled on Friday night after proper precautions were taken, the district said.

Measles Exposure Possible At Multiple Locations In Chester Co.

The district said that the district would directly contact individuals who had been exposed, providing specific instructions.

"If you are not vaccinated for measles or can't prove vaccination, you CAN NOT attend school or school functions and must be quarantined 21 days from school and all school functions," Superintendent David Woods wrote in a letter home to the school community.

The news came just before Chester County announced three possible measles exposure events around the region Friday.

There are 87 measles cases confirmed now in Chester County, one of the nation's hotspots, and 1,136 statewide.
