WEST GOSHEN, PA — A young child was rescued in Chester County Tuesday night after falling down into a septic pipe, authorities said.
The incident occurred at around 5:15 p.m. on the 300 block of Snyder Avenue in West Goshen Township.
The three-year-old boy was playing in the yard of a sanitation company there when he fell down the roughly five foot deep hole into sewage, 6ABC reports.
Highly trained technicians and specialized rescue equipment were deployed to the scene, officials said.
Rescue of the child took about 27 minutes. The child did not appear to suffer any significant physical injuries, authorities said. He was assessed by EMS on scene and then taken to a nearby hospital for evaluation.
"I can only imagine how scary it must have been for this little boy and his parents, but I'm relieved to learn he's been rescued," Chester County Commissioner Eric Roe shared. "I tip my hat to West Chester Fire for making the rescue, as well as the County Technical Rescue Team for springing into action. What a privilege it is to have such talented first responders in Chester County."
The Chester County Rescue Task Force, Chester County Department of Emergency Services, hazmat crews, and Fame Fire Company No. 3 all assisted on the scene.
