Chesco Father Stabs Infant Son, Tosses Him Out Into Snow: Police

Police said the man stabbed his infant child in the stomach.

COATESVILLE, PA — A Chester County man stabbed his infant child in the stomach and then threw him out into the snow, authorities said.

The incident occurred on Wednesday, Feb. 11 at around 11:30 a.m. on the 2000 block of Smithbridge Drive in Coatesville.

Michael Phillips, 44, was at his apartment at the time of the stabbing, police said.

The child is 3-months-old. Police said he was immediately flown to Children's Hospital of Philadelphia where he underwent surgery.

He remains in very critical but stable condition, police said in an update Wednesday afternoon.

6ABC reports that the child's mother had tried to stop the stabbing, which Phillips referred to as a a "sacrifice."

The mother laid on top of the child in the snow to try to protect him after the stabbing, and sent their other child, a nine-year-old boy, out to get help, the report states.

Phillips has been arraigned on charges of attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and endangering the welfare of children, and reckless endangerment. He was booked at Chester County Prison without bail.
