Chesco Man Killed In Icy Crash That Shut Down School District: Police
One man was killed in an icy head-on crash early Wednesday morning, leading a local school district to close.

A Chester County man was killed in a major crash on Route 1 in Chadds Ford on Wednesday morning, leading to road closures and the cancellation of school in the Unionville-Chadds Ford School District.
Jeffrey Mark Phillipe, of Kennett Square, was driving north on Route 1 just before 5 a.m. when he was hit head-on by a car that spun out and lost control coming from the other direction, Pennsylvania State Police said.
The driver of the other car was hurt but survived the accident, authorities said.

Route 1 was closed for hours after the accident. Unionville-Chadds Ford School District Superintendent John Sanville, calling it a “very difficult situation,” made the decision to cancel school due to the difficulties in buses making their way across the district.
“We have been in touch with PennDOT and local law enforcement,” Sanville said in a statement early Wednesday. “With both Route 1 and the 926 bridge out -- our community is effectively cut in half. Under these circumstances bus runs could take hours. We feel it prudent to close schools today.”
