Chester Co. Sheriff Bunny Welsh Will Not Run For Re-Election

Longtime Chester County Sheriff Carolyn Bunny Welsh will not run for re-election in 2019, she announced Thursday.

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — Longtime Chester County Sheriff Carolyn Bunny Welsh will not seek re-election come the next election, in 2019, she announced on Thursday.

Welsh, a Republican, was the first woman to be elected sheriff of Chester County, and is the longest tenured sheriff in county history. She has held the position since 2000.

In a statement, Republican Committee of Chester County Chairman Val DiGiorgio called Welsh a "trailblazer in law enforcement."

"Her commitment to good government and the community she serves is without parallel," DiGiorgio said. "I am proud to have worked alongside Bunny for so many years. It is a testament to her personality and work ethic that Sheriff Welsh is beloved by so many in Chester County."

Welsh was named to the board of the National Sheriffs Association in 2011.

A longtime supporter of President Trump, she cast her delegate ballot for him at the 2016 Republican National Convention. She later joined him at the White House in Feb. 2017 during an Association meeting.
