Chester County Hospital Ranks In The Top 1% of U.S. Hospitals

WEST CHESTER, PA — For the third consecutive year, Chester County Hospital is ranked in the top 1% of hospitals in the United States for superior quality health care.

Healthgrades, an online healthcare information company based in Denver, Colo., released its 2022 list of America’s Best Hospitals.
The report is based on data collected from 2018 to 2020.
Chester County Hospital was one of four hospitals in Pennsylvania to receive the America’s 50 Best Hospitals Award. The others are Lancaster General, Lancaster; Lankenau Medical Center Lower Merion Township; and Reading Hospital,West Reading.

The rankings recognize the top 1, 2, and 5 percent of hospitals in the country.

Michael J. Duncan, Chester County Hospital president and CEO, expressed appreciation to the hospital staff for their quality work.

“The high-scoring evaluation reflects the excellent patient-centered care our staff and employees provide,” Duncan said Tuesday afternoon.

“My thanks go out to every one of our great employees for this achievement."

In fiscal year 2021, Chester County Hospital treated 15,444 inpatients and 40,634 patients in the emergency room.
The hospital has 309 beds, employs 2,650 people, and has 832 physicians.
The hospital opened in 1832 with 10 beds and joined the University of Pennsylvania Health System in 2013.
In 2020, the hospital completed an expansion project which included 15 operating suites, a 99-bed patient tower, a new entrance and a renovated emergency room.
Duncan said the hospital serves as a national model for quality healthcare.

Recognized for excellence amid a pandemic

Lankenau Medical Center also received the 2022 Best Hospitals award for the third consecutive year for overall clinical excellence.
“To be recognized with this award during one of the most challenging times in healthcare is a testament to the loyalty and dedication of my team in providing the safest and highest quality care to our patients and their families,” said Phil Robinson, president of Lankenau Medical Center.

“I feel an overwhelming sense of pride to work with such a committed team and am continuously grateful for the work being done at Lankenau Medical Center.”

Reading Hospital was also recognized for excellence in the 50 best hospitals in 2022.

“The team at Reading Hospital strives to provide the highest quality of care for all its patients,” said P. Sue Perrotty, president and CEO of Tower Health, owners of the hospital.
“I am so proud that, even during an ongoing and relentless pandemic the teams continued their dedicated efforts and now can proudly state they are among the top 1% of hospitals in the country.”

How to get the rankings

To compile the rankings, researchers looked at Centers for Medicare and Medicaid data between 2018 and 2020 for more than 4,500 hospitals nationwide.
In a release announcing the 2022 list, Healthgrades said that only 22 percent of U.S. adult patients said that they considered hospital quality the last time they selected a specialist.
By offering easy access to data-driven hospital ratings, Healthgrades connects consumers with the providers and hospitals who are right for their care needs.
