CHESTER COUNTY, PA — The man convicted in the road rage shooting death of an 18-year-old in Chester County has asked for a lesser sentence, according to court documents.

David Desper, 30, of Trainer, Delaware County, was sentenced to 20 to 40 years in mid-December for the summer 2017 crime.

On Dec. 21, Desper's lawyer Daniel McGarrigle filed the motion of reconsideration of sentence.

McGarrigle told the Daily Local News that there was "absolutely nothing to suggest that this was anything more than a tragic mistake by a kind, gentle, and caring man that has lived an otherwise exemplary life."

Desper pleaded guilty in connection to the shooting and killing of Bianca Roberson, a West Chester Rustin High School graduate, while driving on Route 100 just north of Route 202 on June 28, 2017.

The incident spawned a four day, three-state manhunt for Desper. Desper, his attorney by his side, turned himself in to the West Goshen Police Department on July 2.

Desper's guilty plea, made in September, was for third-degree murder and possession of an instrument of crime.

Roberson, who had just graduated from Rustin in the spring, was headed to Jacksonville University in the fall on a four-year merit scholarship to study criminal justice.
