DCAD offering free financial aid advice to students applying to any school

Delaware College of Art and Design serving community with events aimed at helping families navigate FAFSA and other college-funding issues

Most college students depend on grants, loans and need-based scholarships to fund their college or university studies. To receive most of these, students must complete the often-confusing financial aid application process and file the complex Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA) form.

To help current and future college students make their financial preparations for the 2017-18 academic term, the Delaware College of Art and Design is sponsoring two “Financial Aid 101” information sessions on its Wilmington campus in December. To accommodate parent work schedules, the first will be offered on a weekday evening and the second will be offered on a weekend morning. Any student or family member may attend these sessions, no matter which college or university the student plans to attend.

Because about 90 percent of its students receive some form of financial aid, DCAD is well-versed in the economic challenges facing families with children seeking higher education. The College also knows how to help students find the best ways to pay for college. As a result, each “Financial Aid 101” session will include general information regarding financial aid; instruction on completing the Free Application for Federal Financial Aid or FAFSA; and an overview of the opportunities provided by scholarship, co-operative education and other funding programs.

Now celebrating its 20th year of developing artists, designers and downtown Wilmington, DCAD is the only two-year art and design college in the United States, as well as Delaware’s first and only professional art and design school. DCAD offers an associate of fine arts degree in six majors – animation, fine arts, graphic design, illustration, interior design and photography – with 15 specialized tracks of study. The College boasts a unique “two-plus-two” transfer program that allows students to earn AFA degrees in two years and then matriculate as juniors into baccalaureate programs. In addition, its new, one-of-a-kind Co-Op Program offers students a three-year sequence in which they complete a year of paid internship between the first and second years of classroom and studio study. Applications for DCAD’s 2017-18 term may be submitted online by visiting www.dcad.edu and clicking on the “Apply Now” link.
