Elderly Woman Shot, Killed In Chester Co. Nursing Home: DA

CHESTER COUNTY, PA — A elderly man shot and killed an elderly woman and then shot himself inside a Chester County nursing home Thursday, authorities said.

The incident occurred just before noon at the Manatawny Manor Retirement Home in East Coventry Township.

The shooter, a 90-year-old man, was known to staff at the nursing home and visited the victim regularly, NBC Philadelphia reported.

The victim was 89. Neither of their identities are being made public as the investigation continues and the family is notified.

Authorities did not elaborate on the precise nature of the relationship between the two individuals.

The incident is being investigated as an attempted murder suicide, District Attorney Christopher de Barrena-Sarobe said in a statement.

The man is being treated in the hospital.

No charges have yet been announced but are expected shortly, and the investigation is ongoing.
