WEST CHESTER, PA — Former West Chester mayor and current State Rep. Carolyn Comitta leads the Democratic primary for the 19th senatorial district in Pennsylvania Tuesday night, with more than half of all precincts reporting.

As of 10:30 p.m., here are the results, with 74 of 117 precincts now in:

  • Carolyn Comitta: 2,761
  • Don Vymazal: 1,794
  • Kyle Boyer: 994
  • Write-in: 16

Comitta is also running unopposed in the primary for re-election in the state legislature, but will give up her seat if elected to the Senate.

The winner of the primary will replace veteran legislator Andy Dinniman on the Democratic ballot in November. Dinniman, who has served in the State Senate for 15 years, announced his retirement last fall.

Dinniman endorsed Vymazal, his longtime policy director, for the seat. Boyer, a member of the Tredyffrin/Easttown Board of School Directors, is also in the running.

The winner will face Republican Kevin Runey in the general election in November. Runey is running unopposed in Tuesday's primary.

Given that tens of thousands of ballots were sent by mail due to the coronavirus crisis, it is possible that official results will not be available on Tuesday night for this race and many other local races.
