KENNETT SQUARE, PA — Longwood Gardens has released a rare plant from a breeding program, the first of its kind to be released, and they're asking for the public's help in naming it.

The rare green clivia plant will be on display at the Philadelphia Flower Show next month. Longwood said they'll release the winning name by March 10.

Some names being considered presently include Longwood Hint of Mint, Longwood Winter Green, and Longwood Green with Envy.

There have been six other clivia plants released from Longwood's 43-year-old breeding program, but this is the first green clivia.

It's described as having "creamy green petals that gently cup a throat of deeper green." Something especially rare: the blooms are surrounded by "glossy, dark green foliage," giving the plant various shades of green, something which Longwood noted is a rarity in the plant world.
