KENNETT SQUARE, PA — A unique new "Blooms and Bamboos" installation is now on display at Longwood Gardens.

Ikebana, the world-famous masterworks of bamboo and flower arrangements from artist Akane Teshigahara, will be on display from Oct. 3 through Nov. 17.

“Although I have created bamboo installations in a variety of styles in Japan and around the world for more than 20 years, the two installations planned for Longwood will be the greatest and finest of all, both in terms of scale and bamboo manipulation techniques,” Teshigahara, the headmaster of the famed Sogetsu School of Ikebana.

Ikebana is a 600-year-old discipline of floral design that expresses Japan's relationship with the natural world.

Specifically, the exhibit includes 635 twisting, spiraling, intertwining rods of bamboo, creating works of art that tower 30 feet in the air.
