West Chester Has Second Highest Brewery Density In Region: Study

West Chester has more breweries per capita than any other town in the region, with the exception of one Chester County rival.

WEST CHESTER, PA — With a continuing stream of new microbreweries popping up in the Phoenixville area, it's little wonder that the borough ranks among the nation's most beer friendly places.

But who comes in second?

According to the beer media website Ornery Ales, West Chester trails only Phoenixville as the densest brewery town in southeastern Pennsylvania.

Ahead of Phoenixville, which has 8.6 breweries per 50,000 people, were beer cities like Boulder, Colorado, Portland, Oregon, and Seattle, Washington.

Bend, Oregon led the list with 25.2 breweries per 50,000 people.

In the Philadelphia area, only West Chester had nearly the beer-density of Phoenixville. West Chester's seven breweries give it a 4.5 per 50,000 score.

"Expect Phoenixville to become the next major beer destination on the East Coast," the study's authors note.

The Phoenixville area is teeming with breweries, and the scene is only growing. Once Conshohocken Brewing Company and Rebel Hill open, there will be 10 breweries within a five mile radius of the town.

West Chester has a thriving scene of its own, with Iron Hill, Levante, Boxcar, and more.
