West Chester Rehab & Healthcare Shines a Spotlight on Heart Health

West Chester Rehabilitation & Healthcare Center in West Chester celebrated the American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women Day by illuminating its signage and building with red lights. The Chester County skilled nursing facility has a newly established Cardiac Rehabilitation specialty care program.

Staff and residents kicked off Heart Month in support of the Association’s initiative to increase awareness about cardiac health for women. Highlighting the importance of heart health, the center offered Samba Fitness and Fit and Spin classes to get residents moving and grooving for Go Red Day.

West Chester provides post-hospital, short-term rehab and long-term residential care. Its Cardiac Rehabilitation program focuses on promoting independence and quality of life through reducing symptoms and decreasing disability in heart patients. This focus on transforming lives has brought real results.

“The care I receive here is exceptional!” said Hilma Norton, a resident at the center. “All of the nurses, aides and dietary staff are attentive to my heart condition. I even receive regular visits from a heart doctor here at West Chester. He listens to my heart and lungs, checks in on how I’m feeling, and discusses my medications with me. The doctor and I both agree that I’m doing much better – and I feel great!”

The American Heart Association’s Go Red for Women initiative has been committed to raising awareness and clinical care of cardiovascular disease in women since 2004. According to the Association, cardiovascular disease is the No. 1 killer of women, causing one in three deaths each year.
