The Oakland Athletics have called up West Chester University alum Joey Wendle to the big show.

The Oakland Athletics have officially called up West Chester University alum Joey Wendle to the big show.
Wendle is batting 8th and playing centerfield for the Athletics in their Wednesday afternoon matchup against the Houston Astros. It will be Wendle's debut.

He had been batting .279 with 14 stolen bases and 12 home runs this season at the AAA level. In fewer at bats, he had made notable improvements on his numbers from 2015, according to MLB.com.

Wendle, 26, is an Avon Grove native. He graduated from West Chester in 2012, where he served as a tri-captain in his senior year. He batted .395 his senior year, according to his WCU profile.
He was drafted by the Cleveland Indians in the 6th Round of the 2012 draft before making his way into the Athletics organization.

Wednesday's game at Minute Maid Park in Houston starts at 2:10 p.m.
