Woman Dies After Tree Hits SUV In Chester Co., Child Rescued
The driver of the SUV hit by a tree on Thursday is dead, police said, though authorities were able to rescue her child.

WEST WHITELAND TOWNSHIP, PA — The woman who was driving the vehicle hit by a tree on Thursday in Chester County has died, authorities confirmed.
The incident occurred amidst high wind gusts up to 50 miles per hour throughout the region Thursday, bringing down trees and electrical wires throughout the region and causing widespread hazards.
The incident occurred at 9:55 a.m. at the corner of Ship Road and Stonegate Court, the West Whiteland Fire Company confirmed.

Authorities worked to free both the woman and a child from the vehicle, as they were trapped inside after the tree fell. The was pronounced dead on the scene.
The child was taken to Paoli Hospital and treated for. minor injuries.

"We would like to extend our condolences, thoughts and prayers to the family," the West Whiteland Fire Department shared.
It was not the only fatality likely related to high winds in the area Thursday. A woman walking on Roxborough High School's track was also struck and killed by a light pole that fell.
