Co-workers at Wyoming Valley Mall launched a GoFundMe to help with funeral costs, basic needs, and possible temporary housing, while state police fire marshals and city officials continue investigating the cause.
2. Wilkes-Barre Zoning Hearing Board approves 2 women's recovery houses, Mofon Lounge withdraws application (timesleader.com) — Wilkes-Barre's Zoning Hearing Board approved two women's recovery houses on North Main Street, allowing one to expand and another to open for eight residents. The board also saw the controversial Monfon Lounge withdraw its variance request, while greenlighting a new Haitian takeout restaurant and a multi-service training and wedding office space, shaping how several city properties will be used.
3. Luzerne County's new voting equipment set to arrive next week (timesleader.com) — Luzerne County's new Hart InterCivic voting equipment is arriving in time for the Nov. 3 election, with poll worker training and a more efficient paper-ballot system planned for Wilkes-Barre and all 186 precincts. Board members also approved five ballot referendums and reviewed primary drop-box footage from the Penn Place Building lobby in Wilkes-Barre, forwarding minor multiple-ballot deposits to the district attorney.
4. The Diamond Launches on WLMZ-HD3 Wilkes Barre (radio-online.com) — A new Hip-Hop and R&B station called The Diamond is now broadcasting on WLMZ-FM-HD3 in Wilkes-Barre, expanding from its online roots with 500 hours of commercial-free music. Created to spotlight Northeast Pennsylvania culture and local artists, the station leans into Wilkes-Barre's "Diamond City" identity while promising interviews, specialty mixes, and community-focused programming across the Wyoming Valley.
