1. Wilkes-Barre parents charged after missing 2-year-old found asleep inside home (fox56.com) — Wilkes-Barre police charged two parents after their 2-year-old, reported missing overnight, was ultimately found asleep on a mattress inside their Sturdevant Street home. Officers say the couple had been drinking, believed the child slipped out through an unsecured door, and now both face child endangerment charges while the girl and family dog were safely located.
2. Attorney withdraws zoning application for troubled South Wilkes-Barre bar (citizensvoice.com) — Neighbors packed Wilkes-Barre City Hall expecting to challenge a proposed outdoor canopy at the controversial MofonLounge bar in South Wilkes-Barre, only to learn the owner's attorney withdrew the zoning request. Residents and a nearby pastor remain frustrated over noise, parking, and the bar's character, while the lounge's liquor license faces state review after multiple violations and pending citations.
3. Zoning board allows 2 recovery houses to continue operating in Wilkes-Barre (citizensvoice.com) — Wilkes-Barre's zoning hearing board voted 4–0 to let two women's recovery houses on North Main Street keep operating, while additional unapproved homes face hearings in September. The board also cleared a Haitian restaurant on Park Avenue and a multi-services business on Lehigh Street, and scheduled its next hearings for September 16 at City Hall.
4. Luzerne County court notes: Estates 8/21/26 (citizensvoice.com) — Luzerne County has filed a new batch of estate notices, including several for residents of Wilkes-Barre addresses on East Northampton Street, Boland Avenue, and North Main Street. These filings name the personal representatives now handling each estate, information that can matter for heirs, creditors, and neighbors tracking local probate activity.
5. Kings College welcomes new students on move-in day (2822news.com) — Hundreds of freshmen just moved into King's College in Wilkes-Barre, kicking off campus life for the Class of 2030. Staff and student leaders created a high-energy, welcoming atmosphere with music and support, emphasizing an inclusive environment meant to feel like a home away from home for students from many backgrounds.
