Today, Mayor George C. Brown announced an additional yard waste and recycling drop-off option, as well as a small household appliances/electronics and tire drop off for Wilkes-Barre residents at Department of Public Works Yard at 3 Conyngham Ave., Wilkes-Barre. In addition to regular weekly curbside pickup, the drop-off will help residents get rid of excess yard waste and recyclables. The drop-off will also enable residents to properly dispose of tires and small household appliances and electronics.

Accepted Yard Waste Items: Leaf Waste, Grass Clippings, Sod, Garden Residue, Garden Waste, and Wood Waste (branches under 6 in. diameter) contained in Yard Waste Bins and/or Paper Yard Waste Bags.

Accepted Recycling Items: 1-7 Plastics, Aluminum Cans, Aluminum Foil, Cardboard, Cereal Boxes, Color/White Paper, Detergent Bottles, Empty Aerosol Cans, File Folders, Glass Jars & Bottles, Hard & Soft Cover Books, Juice & Milk Cartons, Junk Mail. All items must be clean and free of food debris. Please note that plastic grocery, storage, and garbage bags are not recyclable. Additional recycling guidelines are available on the city’s website at: https://www.wilkes-barre.city/recycling

The City will accept Car, SUV, and Truck tires and small household appliances and electronics, i.e. blenders, toasters, coffee makers, alarm clocks, vacuum, bicycles, computers, TVs, etc.). Refrigerators, stoves, and other large appliances will not be accepted.

Hours: August 19th through September 4th: 6:00 AM to 2:30 PM Monday through Friday. Beginning on September 8th, the hours will be 7:00 AM to 3:30 PM, Monday through Friday. Saturday Drop-Offs are available between 6:00 AM and 12:00 PM, but are subject to change, therefore residents should call ahead to confirm availability.

Note: City Residents should report to the dispatch office upon arriving at the DPW yard to show proof of residency, such as Driver’s License, required for the drop-off, and to ensure that all drop-off items are acceptable. The City will only take waste from Wilkes-Barre City residents. Municipal Waste (Garbage) will not be accepted at the Drop Off. Commercial recyclables and waste will not be accepted. Mayor Brown will continue to seek opportunities for residents to efficiently remove unwanted household items while preventing dumping within the city.
