Scudder Falls Bridge Pedestrian Path Closing Weekdays

LOWER MAKEFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA — The Delaware River Joint Toll Bridge Commission said that the Scudder Falls Toll Bridge’s 0.86-mile-long Shared-Use Path will be closed Mondays to Fridays until further notice.

The walkway facility has been undergoing resurfacing since mid-March on a Monday-to-Thursday work schedule.

That schedule will now be extended to an additional day so the project can be completed before the start of summer. The change starts on Friday.

To allow the work to proceed, the walkway facility’s entry points will be blocked at the Delaware & Raritan Canal’s rail trail on the New Jersey side and the Delaware Canal towpath on the Pennsylvania side beginning early on Monday mornings and continuing uninterrupted until 6 p.m. on Fridays.

The schedule is subject to change due to inclement weather, emergencies, and other factors.

A commission contractor has already removed the former uneven puddle-prone polyester polymer concrete layer along the bridge’s elevated walkway surface and has begun the process of installing a new PPC protective layer.

Pedestrians and bicyclists are urged to plan ahead for the extended closure periods.

The closest river crossing points for pedestrians are the Calhoun Street Toll-Supported Bridge 4.8 miles to the south, and the Washington Crossing Toll-Supported Bridge 2.5 miles to the north.

The walkways at these alternate river crossing points are significantly narrower than the 10-foot-wide Scudder Falls Shared-Use Path. Bicyclists must dismount and walk their bikes across the walkways at these other two bridges.
