Arrests Down, Traffic Tickets Up In Yardley In 2018

YARDLEY, PA — The number of arrests in Yardley Borough dipped in 2018 compared to the previous year, while traffic citations saw a sizable uptick.

That's according to year-end figures released by the Yardley Borough Police Department.

Yardley Police officers were generally busier this past year, too — taking more than 200 more calls for service than in 2017 and more than twice as many as they received just five years ago.

Yardley officers made 64 arrests in 2018. That's down from 88 in 2017, which was by far the most in any of the past five years. There were 35 arrests in 2014, 64 in 2015 and 53 in 2016.

The number of traffic citations written by Yardley Police in 2018 was higher than any other recent year. The 1,492 citations was up from 1,201 in 2017. Before that, the most that the department had written in a year was 972 in 2014.

Among the borough's arrests were 17 DUIs in 2018, slightly more than the 15 in 2017.

The busy year for Yardley Police saw them responding to 6,487 total calls. That's over 2,000 more than the 6,228 they took in 2017. Each of the past five years has seen an increase in service calls — with just 3,155 in 2014, 5,186 in 2015 and 6,037 in 2016.

In other statistics shared by the department:

• The number of parking tickets written in Yardley in 2018 was 122, down one from the 123 written in 2017. Both were way up from five years ago, when officers only wrote 27 parking citations.
• There were 104 traffic accidents in Yardley in 2018. That's down five from 109 accidents in 2017, but up from the 66 recorded in 2014.
