The Old Library by Lake Afton

The fascinating story of how Quakers changed from being enslavers to actively opposing slavery, participating in the Underground Railroad, and even becoming leaders in the abolitionist movement will be shared by author and historian Pat Mervine.&nbsp;&nbsp;While researching their book, Slavery, Friends, and Freedom in Bucks County, Pat Mervine and co-author Joe Coleman delved deep into the African American journey in Southeastern Pennsylvania focusing on the period from the 1600s to the post-Civil War era. This presentation will deal with the greater story, with particular emphasis on the Quakers in Bucks County - what caused their mind shift and how they took action.&nbsp; This free program is open to the public.&nbsp; &nbsp;Seating will be on a first-come basis.

Garden of Reflection

On the 25th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks, the Garden of Reflection will host a morning ceremony to commemorate the tragic day by marking the chronological events. The ceremony will begin at 8:30 AM and conclude within an hour, followed by a period for reflection and visits to the memorial. Throughout the morning, a bell will mark each significant moment from that day.Morning Timeline:8:30 AM: Ceremony begins with the tolling of the bell nine times for the nine victims from Lower Makefield Township 8:47 AM: Bell toll for the impact of Flight 11 on the North Tower 9:03 AM: Bell toll for the impact of Flight 175 on the South Tower 9:37 AM: Bell toll marking the attack on the Pentagon 9:59 AM: Bell toll marking the collapse of the South Tower 10:07 AM: Bell toll honoring the passengers and crew of Flight 93 in Shanksville, PA 10:28 AM: Bell toll marking the collapse of the North TowerFollowing the ceremony, the Garden of Reflection will remain open for quiet reflection, and visitors are invited to walk the memorial on self-guided tours.An evening remembrance ceremony will begin at 6:00 p.m. and conclude before sunset, offering the community an opportunity to honor, reflect, and unite in remembrance as we mark the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001. Following the ceremony, attendees are invited to participate in a candle-lighting to pay tribute to the lives lost and share a quiet moment of reflection and hope.
