On Saturday afternoon, torrential downpours flooded and damaged some roads. At that time, police estimated the roads would be closed for an extended period.
In nearby Upper Makefield Township, flash flooding claimed the lives of at least five people.
While most roads are now open, a sinkhole has also opened in Lower Makefield Township.
The heavy rain caused a large sinkhole near the Maplevale neighborhood, state Sen. Steve Santarsiero said.
He said the sinkhole extends to the Delaware Canal and threatens to damage the canal and towpath.
Santarsiero said he surveyed the damage and was in contact with the state Department of Conservation and Natural Resources Secretary Cindy Dunn Sunday afternoon to secure the area.
He said that going forward we will work with PennDOT and Lower Makefield Township to implement new engineering controls to help alleviate flooding in the neighborhood as a consequence of future storms.
