York Wastewater Upgrades Aim to Reduce Overflows and Protect Codorus Creek -- Environmental Protection (eponline.com) — York's wastewater system is getting more than $70 million in upgrades aimed at sharply cutting sewage overflows into Codorus Creek and fixing aging pipes, many laid before 1950. Pennsylvania American Water, which took over the York City system in 2022 after federal violations, says new interceptors and digital controls should divert up to 70 million gallons during storms.
2. In wake of firing, York's Human Rights Commission seeks new direction (ydr.com) — York City's Human Relations Commission is operating with just one staff member after its executive director was fired, and leaders are now seeking a consultant to help chart a new strategic direction. With discrimination case numbers down sharply from 2025 and many residents still unaware of its services, the commission is weighing how to use limited grant funds while improving outreach to York residents.
3. York County, Pa. Tobacco King stabbing leaves 1 hospitalized, police say (wgal.com) — A York man is in custody after police say he stabbed an acquaintance in the torso during an argument at the Tobacco King shop on East Market Street in Springettsbury Township. The victim, seriously injured, was taken to the hospital, and investigators are asking anyone who saw what happened to contact Springettsbury Township Detective Thomas with additional information.
4. Pennsylvania Tax Preparer Sentenced to 18 Months for Bank Fraud in PPP Loan Scheme (radiofreehubcity.com) — A York tax preparer has been sentenced to 18 months in federal prison and ordered to repay more than $340,000 for preparing fraudulent PPP loan applications through his business, The Chatman Group. Prosecutors say he knowingly helped nearly twenty clients seek loans they didn't qualify for, kept a cut of each payout, and later tried to obstruct investigators by discarding client records, underscoring federal scrutiny of pandemic relief fraud.
