55 Rhode Island DUI Arrests Over 4th of July Weekend
The number was the total arrests made by Rhode Island's 38 municipal police departments and the state police.
Police in Rhode Island made 55 driving under the influence arrests over the Fourth of July weekend, according to the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association.
"These figures represent the combined efforts of all 38 municipal police departments and the Rhode Island State Police," the association said in a media release.
The weekend officially started at noon on Thursday and ended at 6 a.m. Monday, according to the release.

“I am proud of the men and women whose efforts helped led to 55 DUI arrests and, more importantly, contributed to a fatality-free Fourth of July weekend on Rhode Island's roadways,” Col. Michael Correia, president of the Rhode Island Police Chiefs Association and chief of the Barrington Police Department, said in the release.
“With many thousands of people traveling and celebrating across our state, this outcome demonstrates that visible enforcement encourages people to make safer choices," Correia said. "I thank every law enforcement agency in Rhode Island for their commitment to protecting our communities and removing impaired drivers from our roads.”
