DUI Deaths Down Drastically In Rhode Island: Study

Driving under the influence deaths dropped by a greater percentage in Rhode Island than nearly every other state in America, a recent study revealed.

The analysis conducted Ladah Injury & Car Accident Lawyers Las Vegas examined the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Fatality Analysis Reporting System to compare DUI fatality counts per state for 2023 and 2024, according to a media release accompanying the results of the study.

Rhode Island saw a 37.5% drop year-over-year, the fifth greatest in the nation by percentage, the study showed.

The only states with larger decreases were Michigan, South Dakota, Delaware and Massachusetts.

The three states with the biggest increases in deadly DUIs by percentage were Maryland, Maine and Hawaii.

Maryland also had the largest increase in the number of fatal DUI crashes, followed by Arizona and Oklahoma.

"Alcohol-impaired driving remains one of the most preventable causes of traffic death in the United States, yet the national headline figure rarely captures the full picture of where conditions are worsening," the release said.

"A single aggregate number can mask deeply divergent outcomes at the state level," according to the release, "with some jurisdictions making meaningful progress while others move sharply in the opposite direction. "
