Rhode Island's Rise In Drug Crime Among Steepest In America: Study

The rise in drug-related crime in Rhode Island from 2024 to 2025 was steeper than in nearly every other state in the nation, a recent study revealed.

The study, conducted by Florida accident attorneys Anidjar & Levine, examined FBI Crime Data Explorer data on drug and narcotic violations across the 50 states for 2024 to 2025, according to a media release that accompanied the results of the study.

"Across the United States, drug-related crime has long been one of the most persistent and complex challenges facing law enforcement agencies, policymakers, and communities alike," the release said.

"Its consequences extend far beyond the point of arrest, rippling through families, public health systems, and local economies in ways that are difficult to quantify fully," the release said. "Yet the geography of that burden has shifted considerably, with some states making meaningful strides while others contend with a worsening crisis."

Rhode Island had the fifth-highest increase — 12.8% — of the 50 states, slotting in between California and Connecticut.

Oregon, far and away, had the greatest increase at 43.4%, followed by New Jersey with a much lower 15.6%.

Regionally, the Northeast climbed highest at 5.9%, the study showed.
