Wondering what the most unlikely romantic hotspots in Rhode Island might be?
A recent survey conducted by ACE.com — "not just another social casino website" — figured it out for you by asking more than 3,000 singles for their picks.
"From delayed train platforms to late-night pharmacy runs, everyday environments, the ones people don’t dress up for or overthink, are quietly becoming unexpected hotspots for romance," according to a media release accompanying the results of the survey.
"There’s a reason: when expectations are low and people are simply passing time, the pressure drops, and the chances of striking up a genuine conversation increase," the release said.
"ACE.com surveyed 3,024 respondents to uncover the most unexpectedly romantic places, the everyday locations where people are most likely to roll the dice and hit it off with someone new," according to the release, and the top four were:
"The Block Island ferry lines have excellent 'waiting for summer to officially begin' energy," the release said. "People are juggling bags, beach chairs, bikes, coolers, iced coffees, and the small anxiety of whether they packed sunscreen." It is breezy, crowded, and full of easy openings: weather, ferry timing, where to go first, or whether anyone truly needs that much luggage for one weekend. If romance starts before the boat even leaves, that is strong island momentum.
"Dave’s Marketplace has surprisingly strong 'ordinary errand, unexpected spark' potential," per the release. "It is local, familiar, and full of people making very personal decisions about prepared foods, coffee, snacks, and what counts as dinner. Grocery flirting is wonderfully low-pressure because no one is trying to look mysterious next to rotisserie chicken."
"Federal Hill is already full of romance-adjacent energy, but the cannoli line makes it more accidental," the release said. "Everyone is waiting for pastry, pretending they are only getting 'a couple,' and quietly judging which filling looks most worth the calories."
"WaterFire is technically romantic already, but the accidental version happens around the edges: people drifting through the crowd, looking for friends, finding a good viewing spot, and pretending they are not moved by flaming braziers on a river," according to the release. "It is atmospheric, busy, and just chaotic enough for a stranger’s comment to become a conversation. You might arrive for the art, lose your group near the bridge, and end up talking to someone who makes the night feel even more dramatic."
