The price of pizza is pretty steep in Rhode Island compared to the rest of the country.
Online financial service provider NetCredit examined the cost of pizza in each state by determining the price of a medium cheese pie on various food ordering apps for the 10 biggest chains in each of America’s 100 largest cities and the three biggest in each state.
"This allowed us to calculate the average price of a medium cheese pizza at major chains in each city and state," according to NetCredit.
Rhode Island placed sixth highest in the nation with the average cost of a medium cheese pie coming in at $17.76.
Rhode Island was also the fourth highest in the contiguous United States after California ($18.85), New York ($17.87) and Illinois (also $17.87).
Hawaii was highest at $19.70 and Alaska came in third at $18.60.
"Hawaii-based pizza restaurateur Tom Iannucci recently told pizzatherapy that he attributes rising prices to shipping costs," according to NetCredit. "The state imports around 85-90% of its food."
The cheapest pizza in America was found in Indiana, where an average medium cheese pie runs $13.95. The least expensive states following Indiana were Alabama ($14.04), Michigan ($14.32), Kentucky ($14.64) and Kansas ($15).
