3 Humboldt Penguin Chicks Hatch At Roger Williams Park Zoo

The newborns required around-the-clock care, according to the zoo.

PROVIDENCE, RI — Three Humboldt penguins recently hatched at Roger Williams Park Zoo.

"Every new chick is a victory for this vulnerable species, but this trio required a true team effort," the zoo posted to social media.

"Shortly after hatching, our dedicated animal care and veterinary teams realized the chicks needed some extra assistance," the post said. "They immediately stepped in to provide around-the-clock care and hand-feed the newborns, ensuring they received proper nutrition during their most critical milestones."

The chicks' condition has greatly improved, according to the post.

Humboldt penguins live on the west coast of South America. The Internation Union for Conservation of Nature lists it as vulnerable.
