The state recommended closing down the swim areas of five Rhode Island beaches.
The Rhode Island Department of Health recommended shutting down the swim areas of Mackerel Cove Beach in Jamestown, Hazards Beach in Newport, Gooseberry Beach in Newport, Fogland Beach in Tiverton and Grinnell's Beach, also in Tiverton.
The department of health recommended the closures due to high bacteria counts.
"RIDOH will continue to monitor and review beach water quality through Labor Day," the department said. "The status of a beach may change as new data becomes available."
