The National Weather Service has issued a high surf advisory for Rhode Island.
The advisory starts at 6 a.m. Wednesday and is to remain in effect through 8 p.m. Thursday.
"Large breaking waves of 4 to 8 feet (are) expected in the surf zone," the National Weather Service warned.
Showers and possible thunderstorms will accompany the rough surf Wednesday and Wednesday night, according to the National Weather Service, but Thursday will be sunny with a high temperature around 79 degrees.
The National Weather Service warned of "Dangerous swimming and surfing conditions and localized beach erosion" due to the rough surf.
"Inexperienced swimmers should remain out of the water due to dangerous surf conditions," the National Weather Service advised.
