In honor of National Dog Month, U.S. News & World Report just released its updated report on The Most Popular Dog Breeds in Each State.
"The report findings come from an analysis of millions of data points across all 50 states and Washington, D.C. (from January 2022 to June 2026), filtering dog breeds alongside owner ZIP codes to reveal regional pet preferences," according to a media release.
The most popular dog breed in Rhode Island? That would be the shih tzu.
While the shih tzu has the top spot in the Ocean State and is the fifth favorite nationally, no other state ranks it as its most popular.
The second and third favorite breeds in Rhode Island are the Chihuahua and the Yorkshire terrier, proving the smallest state prefers smaller dogs.
The most popular dog breed in America is the Chihuahua, followed by the French bulldog and the Labrador retriever.
