More West Nile virus was detected in three Rhode Island towns.
The virus was found in mosquito samples collected by the Rhode Island Department of Environmental Management in East Providence, Pawtucket and Providence.
The samples were collected Aug. 11 and tested by the Rhode Island State Health Laboratories.
Rhode Island's risk level for West Nile virus was elevated to high last month and remains high statewide, according to the department of environmental management.
West Nile is the main mosquito-borne disease in the United States, the department said in a media release, and there is no vaccine to prevent it.
About 20% infected with the virus "develop a fever and other symptoms," the release said.
