The Rhode Island Department of Health has unveiled an app to help Ocean Staters quit smoking and vaping.
The app, QuitLogix, is free, available in English and Spanish, and can be downloaded in the Apple App Store and the Google Play Store.
It is available for Rhode Islanders age 18 and older.
"This app puts resources for quitting tobacco and nicotine right at people's fingertips," Director of Health Dr. Jerry Larkin said in a media release.
"If you smoke or vape, quitting may be one of the most important health decisions you ever make," Larkin said.
The app offers the same core features available to QuitNowRI participants enrolled in the web program, including guidance on building a quit plan and rewards for achieving quit milestones, according to the release.
"Tobacco use remains the leading preventable cause of death and disease nationally and statewide," the release said, noting that about one in 10 adult Rhode Islanders smoke, and about one in 15 use e-cigarettes.
"People who combine coaching with treatment in the form of FDA-approved nicotine replacement therapy (NRT) are more likely to quit," the release said.
