NARRAGANSETT, RI — Narragansett's historic Reading Room is for sale for the first time in more than 50 years.
"The Reading Room, one of Narragansett's most iconic properties, is now available for the first time in over 50 years," according to the a listing on Zillow, that priced the property at $9.75 million.
"The five-bedroom, four-bathroom property relocated from Matthewson Street to its current lot at 41 Ocean Road in 1899 to be a part of the Narragansett Pier Casino (a term which then referred to social clubs rather than sites for gambling), according to the property's historic preservation certification application," Boston.com reported.
"The building converted to residential use in the 1930s and operated as a guest house after changing hands again in the 1940s," according to Hoodline. "In 1971, Lila Delman — founder of the namesake real estate brokerage she launched in Narragansett in 1964 — bought the property and lived there intermittently with her family until 1999, using parts of the residence for her real estate office."
