Rhode Island is among the deadliest states in America when it comes to Halloween traffic fatalities, a recent study revealed.
Rhode Island had the third-highest rate in the nation with 2.68 fatalities per million residents, according to Ohio-based, family-run auto racing and driver development organization FLBR Motorsport.
Rhode Island trailed only Wyoming and Maine and was ahead of fourth-highest Alabama and Kentucky in fifth.
The state with the lowest rate was Massachusetts with Utah, Wisconsin, New York and Illinois following.
The researchers with FLBR Motorsport examined the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Fatality Analysis Reporting System data to calculate the number of deaths per million residents for the last three years, according to a media release accompanying the study.
"The study covers traffic-related deaths involving motor vehicles, not exclusively incidents involving children or trick-or-treaters," the release said.
"The analysis also identified the one-hour period with the highest recorded number of fatalities in each state across the three Halloween dates," according to the release, which put Rhode Island's deadliest hour between 1-1:59 a.m.
