Rhode Island will have a new attorney general after the Nov. 3 election.
Rhode Island Attorney General Peter F. Neronha is finishing his second and final term.
Seeking to succeed Neronha are Republican Alan Gordon and Democrat Kim Ahern.
Gordon, an ecclesiastical lawyer, said he is running for attorney general to "restore its intended function of serving neutrally and without political favoritism. I will also root out and bring to justice the corruption cells plaguing the good people of RI."
"My opponent has interest conflicts, but I am beholden to no special interests," Gordon said. "An AG has to go to Court, but my opponent has to recuse from abortion cases, cannabis cases, and other important issues because of interest conflicts, ones from which I've steered clear."
Ahern failed to respond to questions from Patch.
One her campaign website, Ahern lists putting violent offenders behind bars and bringing justice to survivors, providing mental health resources, and prosecuting hate crimes and civil rights violations as key issues.
