Rhode Island is at an elevated risk for fire.
"The combination of dry fuels, gusty northwest winds up to 25 to 35 mph, and minimum relative humidity values near 40 percent will contribute to an elevated risk of fire spread across southern New England," the National Weather Service cautioned.
The National Weather Service warning of elevated fire risk starts at 11 a.m. and was to remain in effect until 6 p.m.
"The lowest relative humidity and strongest wind gusts are expected during the late morning to mid afternoon hours on
Friday," the National Weather Service advised.
"Use extra caution if handling any potential ignition sources such as machinery or matches, and ensure to properly extinguish or dispose of cigarette butts," the agency cautioned.
