The Rhode Island Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals has 23 chinchillas rescued from Ohio that need homes.
The 23 chinchillas are from among more than 900 that were rescued last month "from dire conditions in a commercial breeding operation in Ohio," the RISPCA said in a social media post.
"We are asking our community to consider adopting, and you can find their cute faces, personality profiles, and adoption information on our website!" the post said.
"We are also seeking volunteers and donations to offset the cost of care," according to the post.
The chinchilla is "either of two South American species of medium-sized rodents long valued for their extremely soft and thick fur," according to Britannica.
"Once very common, chinchillas were hunted almost to extinction," Britannica said. "They remain scarce in the wild but are raised commercially and also sold as housepets."
