Comedy Legend Makes Surprise Appearance At Movie Marathon In MA

NEW BEDFORD, MA — Bill Murray made a surprise appearance at a Bill Murray movie playing at a New Bedford movie theater.

The Zeiterion is in the midst of a Bill Murray Movie Monday Marathon — "Five Mondays. Five Bill Murray classics. And a celebration of the comedy legend whose summer journeys through New Bedford have become part of local lore" — and Bill Murray reportedly showed up after a screening of "What About Bob?"

"After multiple sightings of the actor’s cardboard cut-out around New Bedford, The Zeiterion reeled in the real Bill Murray for a surprise appearance on Monday," according to a media release issued by the theater.

"Murray addressed the audience from the historic Zeiterion stage at the conclusion of 'What About Bob?'" the release said, and the "audience erupted with laughter after Murray said, 'This is really nice. I can’t believe there’s this many people ... when I was told there was so many people here I almost turned around and went home.'”

Murray is "one of summer’s most legendary travelers through New Bedford," according to the release, and has "become something of a local folk hero — popping into restaurants, surprising locals, and posing for photos around town."

Next up in the Bill Murray Movie Monday Marathon is "Caddyshack" this coming Monday.

“I’m so happy that people are going to movies again," Murray said in the release. "It’s really important to see movies together in the theater and I think you should keep coming.”
