Boyfriend Of RI Girl, 17, Pleads Not Guilty To Charges In Her Death

Rhode Island native Nevaeh Goddard, 17, had been living with her 20-year-old boyfriend Shane Curry​ in Stow, Massachusetts when she died.

BURRILLVILLE, RI — The boyfriend of a 17-year-old girl from Burrillville pleaded not guilty to charges of assault and battery after the girl was found dead under "suspicious" circumstances Friday, WPRI reported Wednesday.

The girl, Nevaeh Goddard, had been living with her 20-year-old boyfriend Shane Curry in Stow, Massachusetts when she died, according to the Middlesex County District Attorney's Office.

Goddard was previously reported as missing from Lincoln, RI, by the National Center for Missing and Exploited Children.

Stow police were called for a well-being check at the couple's home on Great Road around 4:30 p.m. Friday, after which Curry forbade them to enter for around two hours, officials said.

When they were finally able to enter the home, police found Goddard dead. Curry was taken into custody and then to a hospital for evaluation, according to officials.

Curry is facing charges of assault and battery on a household or family member and assault and battery causing serious bodily injury, officials said.

The Office of the Chief Medical Examiner said they will conduct an autopsy to determine the cause and manner of death and additional charges are possible.

Curry is being held without bail as of Wednesday, according to WPRI.
