RHODE ISLAND — Heavy rain that began Tuesday evening and continued into Wednesday morning has flooded the streets of Rhode Island, adding even more wetness to areas already swelled from the last storm's snowfall.
A flood warning is in effect for central Rhode Island until 12:00 p.m. Wednesday, and until Friday for the southwestern part of the state, according to the Rhode Island Emergency Management Agency.

The following roads are closed due to flooding and weather conditions, with police urging travelers to seek alternate routes.
Atwood Avenue: Closed from numbers 1377 to 1463. This includes the Route 6 exit ramps.

Atwood Avenue from Stop & Shop to the Washington Trust is under 2-3 feet of water, Mayor Joseph Polisena Jr. said in a statement shared on social media.
First responders are deployed with military vehicles and boats to extract people if needed.
Police are urging drivers to be vigilant and watch for flooded roads, debris, or downed power lines.
