A few scattered showers could be in the cards, but warm weather in the 90s and sunshine should be the key players heading into July 4.

RHODE ISLAND — Summer is officially here — and it sure feels like it here in the Ocean State.

It's finally warm enough for a dip in the ocean or pool, which may come in handy this holiday weekend, as it's supposed to get even hotter.

On Friday, it's expected to reach the 90s in Rhode Island. Mix in a hefty amount of humidity, and we're looking at a heat index of almost 100.

It's expected to remain hot all weekend, with temps in the mid-80s through the stretch into Monday, according to AccuWeather.

A cold front is expected to sweep in on Saturday, with a chance of showers and heavy thunderstorms in the afternoon and evening. It's expected to be muggy and still warm though, maybe leaving a little bit of room for dry air after some showers.

The July 4 holiday might be a beauty - with temperatures in the 80s and humidity levels that are sustainable. Sunshine will blast all parts of the Ocean State with a slight chance of a passing storm.

Thursday

Sunny, with a high near 84. Thursday night will be partly cloudy, with a low around 63. Southeast wind around 5 mph becoming southwest after midnight.

Friday

Sunny, with a high near 90, but breezy in the afternoon. Friday night will bring a chance of showers and thunderstorms. Increasing clouds, with a low around 70. Southwest wind, 8 to 11 mph, with gusts as high as 21 mph. Chance of precipitation is 60 percent.

Saturday

Showers and thunderstorms are likely. There may also be some flash flooding and damaging winds. It should be mostly cloudy, with a high near 81. The chance of precipitation is 92 percent. Saturday night will bring a slight chance of showers and thunderstorms. The low for the night is 67, and wind gusts could reach 13 mph.

Sunday

Mostly sunny, with a high near 85. Sunday night will be mostly cloudy, with a low around 62.

Monday, July 4

Mostly sunny, with a high near 86. Monday night will have clear skies and a low of 63.
