Peanut Butter Recalled In RI For Salmonella Contamination
Certain Jif brand peanut butters were part of the recall, Rhode Island health officials said.

RHODE ISLAND — If you eat Jif peanut butter, make sure what you bought isn't part of a recent recall.
J.M. Smucker Co. recalled select Jif peanut butter products because of salmonella contamination, a spokesperson for the Rhode Island Department of Health (RIDOH) said Monday.
The recalled peanut butter was distributed in retail store nationwide, including in Rhode Island, health officials said. The recalled products have lot codes 1274425 – 2140425. Lot codes are printed alongside the products’ best-if-used-by date. More information about these products is available on the FDA's website.

Salmonella can cause serious and sometimes fatal infections in young children, frail or elderly people and others with weakened immune systems. Health officials said healthy people infected with salmonella often experience fever, diarrhea (which may be bloody), nausea, vomiting and abdominal pain. In rare circumstances, infection can result in the salmonella getting into the bloodstream and producing more severe illnesses such as arterial infections (i.e., infected aneurysms), endocarditis and arthritis.
Anyone who has these products should dispose of them immediately. Consumers who have questions should visit Jif's website or call 800-828-9980.
